It’s not very often that you see the words “town hall” and “mobs” in the same sentence, but here we are.
Across the country, town hall meetings with Democrats are being taken over by vocal, angry mobs who claim all sorts of outlandish things in opposition to health care reform. It’s been all over the news, and I hope you’re paying attention. It’s fascinating and frightening.
Here are a few links to put things in perspective:
Rachel Maddow’s THUGLIFE (GOP) video explaining what these groups are doing, and connecting the dots between the 2000 election recount mobsters & today’s healthcare reform demonstrators. A riveting 13 minute background video: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26315908/vp/32277121#32277121
The Washington Post’s Dan Eggen reported last month that pharma lobbyists are spending tens of millions to influence health care legistlation, and he gives you the most recent numbers (astounding!): http://voices.washingtonpost.com/health-care-reform/2009/07/health_care_continues_its_inte.html
This weekend, the New York Times reported that the drug industry is now spending a whopping $150 million on TV commercials SUPPORTING the White House’s overhaul of the system. The article also refers to a deal between the White House and industry, but details aren’t available: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/09/health/policy/09lobby.html?ref=health
Today’s Digital Journal outs James Dobson (Focus on the Family), The Christian Coalition of America, the Minnesota Family Council, and the American Family Association — they seem to think health care reform is against God’s plan. (Aren’t these folks all tax-exempt??? What’s with the politicking???) http://digitaljournal.com/article/277338
So I have two questions:
1) Is there a way to determine if any of that industry lobbying money was donated to religious organizations?
2) Anybody seen Karl Rove lately?
